The Cress Gallery of Art is an academic gallery. It’s exhibition schedule and programming is selected to demonstrate the highest consideration for formal theory and concept, contemporary artistic practice and materials, excellence in craft and technique, and relevance to the curriculum of the UTC Department of Art and its role within the University and the Community.

The goal of this mission is to provide both students and the general public opportunities for exposure to a diverse range of contemporary working styles and approaches, aesthetic choices and art historical influences conceived in a variety of media.

The spaces of the Cress feature eight to fourteen exhibitions per year. These exhibitions include work by contemporary professional working artists and designers of regional, national, and international reputation; annual UTC Department of Art Student BFA Thesis exhibitions, a yearly Juried Student exhibition and Feinstein Scholarship recipient’s exhibition; a biennial Art Faculty exhibition; and periodic exhibitions of work from the UTC Permanent Collection of Art.

The Cress Gallery of Art is an institutional member of the Association of Academic Museums and Galleries (AAMG).

The Gallery bears the name of artist and UTC Guerry Professor of Art Emeritus George Ayers Cress (1921 – 2008) a dedicated lifetime advocate of the University’s Gallery of Art and its importance for both campus and community.
