The Chattanooga Symphony traces its roots to an enterprising group of young people who gave the first concert of the Chattanooga Symphony on November 5, 1933.
The CSO has changed quite a bit since 1933, merging with the Chattanooga Opera in 1985 to become the first joint Symphony and Opera company in the nation.
From 1985-1991, Vakhtang Jordania served as the Musical Director. From 1992-2011, Maestro Robert Bernhardt served as Musical Director and Conductor.
In 2011, the CSO announced that Kayoko Dan will become the Musical Director and Conductor of the CSO. Music Director Dan is the first female conductor of the CSO an is also the youngest conductor.
